Market corner mural

leamington spa 2025

In April 2025 I noticed a plaque above a shop on Tachbrook Street in Leamington near my home. I was on maternity leave and passed by this spot frequently on my way to get coffee! The sign said ‘Market Corner 1923’ and got me thinking about the history of the area. I soon found out the little row of shops which was now home to a pebble dash fronted betting company had in fact been a row of local shops including a grocery, bakers, wireless batter repair shop and fish and chips. This became the visual inspiration for the design. I approached the shop and they were happy to support the project.

The pebbledash wall was painstakingly painted in the April heatwave and local people came to support me with cold drinks and snacks. It was incredible to see what a difference the colourful artwork made to the local residents.
